I thought you did an awesome job at keeping eye contact with the camera and speaking very clearly. You were very engaging. I don’t think you stumbled upon your words once, which is more than most of us can say!
I thought the speech was very nicely paced. I liked how you focused and elaborated on three specific issues instead of speaking more generally. This is was also much more positive speech for Obama than it was a negative one for McCain, and I appreciate that too.
I do think it’s interesting that you mentioned in the beginning of the speech that you were greatly affected by the outcome of this election because you are a “20 year old white middle class student.” As someone who falls into that category herself, i think it’s easy for us young people to be self-absorbed and make it seem like the election is all about us.
That being said, I personally feel the same way you do. We’re the ones trying to get jobs and secure health care in this disaster of an economy in the next two years.
I think the fact that we are greatly affected this time around is shown by the high projected turnout of young voters for next week. We’re finally speaking out because this time around it really does matter.
Emma,
I thought your speech was very well delivered as well as being informative without boring the viewer.
You tied together a lot of issues, and your understanding of the candidates and their platforms is obvious.
One part of your speech that really stood out to me was when you touched on the issue of healthcare, contrasting the views of Obama and McCain. I think Sen. Obama’s healthcare plan really demonstrates the his populist characteristics in a way that we definitely do not see in his opponent.
And like Susannah, I appreciated how you contextualized this election and its importance for young people. This is the first presidential election nearly all of our class will have participated in, and that fact gives the issues at stake a special relevance. This is our first chance to make our voices heard in such a way, and you outlined the reasons for your decision articulately and convincingly.
Great job.
i thought your speech was very informative. it included a lot of the key issues in the election. you not only touched upon those issues but explained them, explained obamas veiws on them, and why his views would benefit our country. it hought the part about improving our foreign relations was very good and definately something our country needs to improve upon. i liked how you included how obama knows what its like to have financial troubles. overall i thought your speech was really good. great eye contact and a great delivery as well.
